My Somali Family...

I spent the afternoon with my fabulous Somali family that I volunteer through Catholic Charities with. I'm in love with them. They are just amazing and so full of life and sunshine :) It's so fun to practice English with them and then in turn try to learn Somali. I am failing miserably at it I think. One of the only words I can really remember is for necklace! hahaha can you tell how much I love jewelry :) I even tried to learn a little bit of Arabic as well. Very interesting written language.
The family is a family of 6 (single mom and 5 kiddos- 2 girls and 3 boys) Right now we're searching for jobs for the girls before their government benefits run out - eeek! Not much time and very little progress :(
They are just gorgeous girls and very smart. I look forward to seeing them again from the minute I drive away from their apartment complex. I highly recommend to everyone to get involved with a refugee ministry. You will LOVE it!

For those of you who don't follow LSU sports. We're one game away from winning the National Championship in baseball!!!! Whew-hoo! We play Texas again tonight for the second game of the best of 3. Last night's game was 11 innings! But finally we scored one run and Texas couldn't come back. GEAUX TIGERS!

Adventure Day!

After our hike Ezzy was all tuckered out.

Look at this amazing tree growing out of this rock! Pretty awesome.

Today Michael, Ezra, and I decided to have an adventure day and went pseudo-rock climbing in Mineral Wells State Park. The back pack carrier came in really handy though it was difficult to clear some of the lower branches along the paths. We had a blast there but really wanted to go for a swim so we then decided to drive the extra 30 miles or so to Possum Kingdom Lake and went for a dip at the beach there. I LOVE Possum Kingdom! I so want a house there. I'm a water baby myself so just imagining all my days off spent in a boat made me quite envious. Mineral Wells was quite a surprise. Michael had been climbing there before but I didn't expect it to be so awesome. The photos do it NO justice. We didn't do any repelling or anything obviously b/c of Ez but maybe one day when he's bigger we will. Talk about a work out. Hiking kicked my butt!

6 month post placement...

So yesterday was our visit for our 6 month post placement!!! YEA! Only one more to go! I can't believe we've had Ezzy that long and at the same time it feels like we've had him forever! We also discussed the possible adoption of the 7 year old boy we're looking at with our SW and she did stress to consider EVERYTHING before pursueing and older child. Luckily I'm already reading "Adopting the Hurt Child", so most of the issues mentioned I'm prepared for, or at least mentally prepared for but physically and spiritually I think I can only hope to be prepared for. Michael is still really worried about the financial side of things which if only realistic of course but he had the same concerns before we adopted Ezra and everyday he says how blessed we are to have him in our lives. I'm coming up with some really good fundraising ideas so prayerfully they work out and are fruitfull.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all the dads out there but especially to God our father for his infinite love and blessings :) I knew Michael would be an amazing father when we met but seeing him and Ezra is heartwarming. He's a phenomenal father, role model, and friend. Our children are so fortunate to have that kind of loving, Godly man in their lives. Love you babe!

Funny story from yesterday...

So yesterday after the Water Gardens, Michael, Ezra, and I went to Macarroni Grill for lunch. After we were done splitting a lunch plate we were packing up left overs and a bus boy (he was white by the way) came up to us and was like, "Wow, I've never seen that before." Me thinking he meant 2 people haveing left overs after splitting a meal was like "oh yeah, we still couldn't finish it".. and he looked kind of confused, and he's like, "No, I didn't know that 2 white people could have a black baby!". Michael said, "well he's from Ethiopia" - which really made the guy confused I think, so I said very slowly and clearly, "He's ADOPTED, he's from
A F R I C A." I think only then did the light bulb go off. When he walked away Michael and I were rolling!

On another note, I spoke with one of the adoption coordinators with the agency that has the 7 year old boy we're interested in and I'm trying not to get too excited about him but last night I filled out their application just "in case" :) We would have to come up with $8500 really quickly since some of the funds are due at the time of referral just like AWAA and that's what scares me the most is the money. But I was told that there haven't been any other families inquiring about him :(
so I really feel like again that is God's way to telling me that he should be ours. I'm just being cautiously optimistic and trusting in the Lord that everything will work out. So for now we are praying about it more and I'm working on fundraising ideas.

A trip to the gardens...

Today we went to the Japanese Water Gardens in the Ft. Worth Botanical Gardens. It was GORGEOUS! We'd never been but I want to live there! Yesterday we went to the zoo but it was just SO hot! We only made it 1/2 way through then had to turn around to leave. The Water Gardens were big enough to warrant the trip but short enough to not to be miserable. It will be much funner when Ezzy is a bit older. Tomorrow is my first day to volunteer with Catholic Charities' Refugee program. I have a family of 5 from Somalia and I'm just super excited to start!

After we left the gardens, Michael and I looked back at Ezra and were happily surprised to see him holding his book open "reading"!!! YEA! All of our efforts to read to him are paying off :)

Playtime fun..

So the other day I bought a piece of furniture that came in a large box and Michael told me that he wanted to keep it to make Ezra a club house. So I come home from work and find that his idea of a clubhouse was to replicate the Freedom 7 space capsule that took the first American to space! hahaha who by the way was a Navy pilot ;) Here's some pics of Ezzy playing in his space capsule.

We had so many pictures from Ezra's birthday part and Christening that I decided just to make a montage from most of them. Ezra's also walking everywhere now! He rarely crawls to get somewhere and he's cutting 4 teeth! YIKES! Our boy's growing up! Enjoy!

Ezra's FIRST Birthday!!!

Yummy Yummy Crawdaddies!!!

Ezra and his Godfather (Paran' in Cajun French) Raymond

Whew hew, college fund money!!!

Today is Ezzy's first birthday. We had a party for him yesterday (a poolside crawfish boil). It went really well but was SOOOOOO HOT! Today we baptised him into the Catholic Church so we had even more cake - ugghh.. I can honestly say I now have NO craving for sugar at all. He got lots of great gifts and some money for his college fund and for An Orphans Ticket Home :) yea!!! Thanks to everyone who attended, especially our out of state family and friends. WE LOVE YOU ALL!
